Ecco Biom H4 golf shoe review

Known for its traditional and upscale styling, Ecco seeks to branch out to the slightly younger and young-at-heart population with the sleek and ultra-modern Biom H4.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new Biom model (the Hybrid 3 launched in 2017) and the H4 represents a significant design change. We have to say we love the direction Ecco has taken with this new spikeless golf shoe.

Style wise, these strike the perfect note. Being fairly neutral overall means that golfers won’t immediately be put off by the design and that it can be matched with different outfits.

But pops of color and subtle features, like the embossed leather upper and brown leather patch on the tongue, provide enough pizazz to boost the appeal of the shelf. It strikes the perfect balance between visually appealing without being garish, and in four color options there’s plenty of choice as well, but it’s arguably more of a summer shoe.

The experience inside the shoe doesn’t disappoint either. The space up front increases comfort by giving your toes leeway while the rear section is more locked in position, a feature the golfer needs to maximize grip and stability.

With a new BOA option on both men’s and women’s models, which sees a unique dial, lace and guide configuration, this model’s already impressive comfort levels have reached new heights.

We cannot stress enough how good the BOA lacing system is and with its arrival you can really customize the fit to make your golf experience even more enjoyable.

It’s not the softest spikeless shoe underfoot, but sometimes you don’t want your golf shoes to be too soft on the course – there’s enough of them so you don’t feel bulky when walking, while providing a solid base from which to swing.

The grip of the outsole also impressed. While mud did build up in the deep channels when testing in wet conditions, it didn’t seem to affect the traction we felt.

Whatever lie we faced, the sole held firm when we needed it. Plus, it features the Gore-Tex membrane for peace of mind if you get caught in a passing downpour.

Additionally, the lightweight nature of the Biom H4 paired with the contemporary and understated design means this shoe is more than suitable for being worn off the course and the softer section around the ankle means you can easily place them without socks if desired. .

We cannot stress enough the quality of the BOA lacing system and you can really customize the fit to make your golf experience even more enjoyable. It’s arguably more practical on the top of the tongue and doesn’t detract from the shoe visually.
