LAS VEGAS — The No. 16 Texas men’s golf team recorded a 278 10-under par on Tuesday to finish in third place at Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Senior Cole Hammer shot a 5-under 67 for the second straight round and paced the Longhorns with a season-best tie for second place in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 11-under par 205 (71-67-67 ).

The Longhorns posted a three-round team score of 29 under par 835 (281-276-278). Oklahoma’s No. 1 won the team title with a 54-hole score of 38-under 826 (268-282-276), while No. 4 Pepperdine took second place at 31-under. normal 833 (273-287-273) . Southern Highlands Collegiate’s 15-team field included seven teams ranked in the Top 25 in the latest Division I Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll (February 18).

Hammer paced a trio of Longhorns that finished in the top 10. Junior Travis Vick had a 54-hole score of 9-under par 207 (69-69-69) to tie for seventh place, and junior Mason Nome recorded an 8-under 208 (68-69-71) tied for 10th.

Patrick Welch of Oklahoma earned individual medalist honors with a three-round score of 14-under 202 (66-69-67) to finish three strokes ahead of a five-man field that included Hammer at 11 under. normal 205.

Texas returns to the course when it competes at the Arizona NIT on March 18-19 (Friday-Saturday) in Tucson, Arizona.


  • Senior Cole Hammer shot a 5-under 67 for the second straight round to finish in a season-best tie for second at 11-under 205 (71-67-67). His previous best finish was a tie for seventh at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational (September 17-19). Sitting at 1 under on his first 10 holes, Hammer closed Tuesday’s round with four birdies on his last six holes (13, 14, 16 and 18).
  • Junior Travis Vick carded a 3-under 69 for the third straight round to tie for seventh place at 9-under 207 (69-69-69). Vick recorded four birdies and an eagle (par-five 9th hole) on Tuesday.
  • Junior Mason Nome tallied a 1-under 71 in the final round to tie for 10th at 8-under 208 (68-69-71). Nome went 4-under 32 on the front nine and recorded five birdies on Tuesday.
  • Senior Parker Coody recorded a 1-under 71 on Tuesday tied for 32nd at 1-under 215 (73-71-71). Coody was 2-over through his first 10 holes but rallied to score three birdies over his last six holes (13, 14 and 16).
  • First-year student Alexander González, who competed individually at the event, recorded 1 of 73 on Tuesday to tie for 50th at 2 over par 218 (71-70-73). From hole 10, Gonzalez was 5 on his first 11 holes, but rallied to score four birdies on his last six holes (4, 5, 8 and 9) to finish at 1 on the day.
  • Junior Does Thomson recorded a 7 of 79 on Tuesday to rank 84th at 37 on the par 253 (92-82-79).
