Tiger Woods broke down in tears while on the golf course on Friday morning July 15.
Woods has set his sights on returning to St. Andrews this year for the British Open after seriously injuring his leg in a car accident in February 2021.
After returning, he struggled throughout the first two days of the tournament and did not qualify for the weekend.
So, on his final hole of his second round on Friday July 15, he received a massive ovation from the crowd in the stands and it made him emotional.
Cameras captured Woods wiping away his tears for several moments as he walked to his ball near the green.
Tiger eventually managed to pull himself together and he continued to make a par – finishing the event with a score of +9.
Woods said afterwards that this might be the last time he plays another Open at St. Andrews and that’s why he was so emotional on the course.
“I don’t know if I will be physically capable of playing another British Open here at St. Andrews,” said the 46-year-old, who has already won two Opens at the famous course. “I definitely feel like I can play more British Open. But, I don’t know if I’ll be there when it comes back here.
“So the warmth and the ovation at 18, it touched me.”
