TUCSON – The UNI men’s golf team kicked off their Spring 2022 season with a team third place finish and a Panther in the top 10 of the final standings.

The spring season opener was a two-day event hosted by Valparaiso University at Dove Mountain Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.

Day 1

The Panther men finished day one in third place with a score of 314. Thomas Storbeck led UNI tied for seventh with a score of 75. He was followed by Griffin Parker with 79, Tommy Doyle and Jack Reeves both with 80. Ben Bermel rounded out the five Panther golfers with a total of 88. Valparaiso led after day one with a team score of 304.

On the individual side, UNI Jack Moody finished the first round with an overall score of 92 and tied for 39th. Arizona State’s Jose Luis Ballester led the individual standings after day one with a score of 69.

Day 2

The Panthers finished the final two rounds of the tournament with an overall team score of 938, finishing in third place out of five schools. Storbeck continued his strong showing, leading UNI with a tournament score of 231, as he shot 75 and 81 in the second and third rounds, respectively. Parker and Reeves both finished with 235, closely followed by Doyle at 237 and Bermel shooting 262 for the three rounds. North Dakota State finished first with a team score of 906 and Valparaiso came in second with 913. Bradley finished fourth with a team score of 965 and Chicago State rounded out the five participating schools with a score of 1015.

Moody had two strong rounds after day one, shooting 81 and 82 in rounds two and three. He finished with an overall individual tournament score of 255. Ballester took first individual place with a final score of 212.


The Panthers will compete at the South Dakota State Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 11-12.
