Willis Case Golf Course, in collaboration with First Tee Denver and GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents
Association of America) hosted an innovative environmental education awareness event that used the golf course
as an environmental learning laboratory. Willis Case Superintendent Steve Schommer welcomed 45 grade five students from
Centennial Elementary nearby for the First Green event on Tuesday, September 28. The students went through the stations and
learned Cool Tools about the green, plants and environment, soils, golf course operations and seeds and
Landscape plants. The students were even able to plant and take home their own pot of weed to water and grow. In
In addition, there were also two stations where students could hit golf balls and putts to familiarize themselves with the
First Tee Denver game. Denver Golf plans to host more such events to promote the growth of the
play and expose children to the golf industry.

The first green program focuses on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) principles where students obtain
